As if we don’t
find it hard enough trying to buy products at our local supermarkets. Usually
the issue is having time to ensure I read every label before I head to the
check out counter, ensuring there are no food allergens that affect my little Munchkin.
Now that
doesn’t seem to be enough. People with food anaphylaxis now have to take into
account the safety risk of food products that are imported.
Whilst viewing
the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) website, information provided
shows that there has been an increase in food recalls for undeclared peanut in
imported products. This is a big worry for those suffering allergy to peanuts.
Other countries
may have different food labelling laws and even though they are required to
follow Australian food labelling laws when they export to Australia, they don’t
necessarily do that.
The following
links are very resourceful with this topic.
Please ensure your medical
emergency kit containing your preferred anti-histamine and adrenaline injector
such as EpiPen or Anapen are not past their use by dates. Sadly, we never know
when we are confronted by an unplanned & unexpected accident.
